　　The American concept（观念） of love and romance begins with dating. At first they might have group dates with several boys and girls together. Later, they start going on single dates-just one boy and one girl. Sometimes a boy and a girl will go to a movie. Maybe they will go to a party at a friend's house. Or they might go out to eat.

　　Americans view（看待） dating differently from people in other cultures. American young people see a date as a time just to have fun. They don't always have a romantic interest in mind. Someone may go out with one person this week, and another person the next. After a while, a boy and a girl may decide they want to "go steady."（稳固的） This means they think of each other as "boyfriend and girlfriend." It also means they don't want to date anyone else. Romance is beginning to bloom.

　　Romantic love is very much a part of American culture. Movies, TV shows and books in America all picture（描绘） people falling in love. Americans know that no romance is perfect, but still they try to find the ideal（理想的，完美的） person.

　　爱情是美国文化的一大部分，（Romantic love is very much a part of American culture）美国的电影、电视和书都刻画人们坠入情网的事，美国人知道沒有一个爱情是完美的，但他们仍旧试图寻找理想伴侶.（Americans know that no romance is perfect, but still they try to find the ideal person.）

　　这里的picture是“描绘”的意思，比如：

　　The painter pictured the general sitting on a horse.
　　画家给骑着马的将军画像。

　　此外，在头脑中“描绘”也可以用picture，也就是“想象”的意思，比如：

　　Can you picture Bill dressed as a fairy?
　　你能想像得出比尔扮作仙女的模样吗?

　　I see.除了表示“我看见了”，还可以有什么意思呢？翻翻资料，你会有惊人的发现。

　　在口语中，see可是一个“出镜率”极高的词，人们常说的I see.意思就相当于I understand.类似的例子还有很多，比如：

　　You see the thing is I'm really busy right now.
　　你知道关键是我现在确实很忙。

　　有时候，为了引起别人的注意，see（升调）也很好用：

　　You mix the flour and eggs like this, see.
　　把面粉和鸡蛋像这样混合，看到了？

　　See还有consider的意思，所以see sb/sth as sth就是“把某人或某事看作……”的意思，比如，Jake是一个小气的老公，因此：

　　Jake saw any man who spoke to his wife as a potential threat.
　　Jake把每个和他妻子说话的男人看作潜在的威胁。

　　再来，介绍一些带有see的实用句子。

　　Let me see./Let's see.当你试图想起什么事情时，嘴上通常会这么说。比如：

　　Let me see…where did I put that letter?
　　让我想想，我把那封信放哪去了？

　　I don't see why not.用于以肯定的态度回答别人的要求。比如：

　　Can we go to the park?
　　去公园好吗？

　　I don't see why not.
　　没什么不可以。

　　I'll see what I can do.表示你会尽力帮助某人。比如：

　　Leave the ones you haven't done with me, and I'll see what I can do.
